Serial Port Adapter Cable Driver
Posted by Bobscatz on 07/06/2008 06:41 PM

Hi! I'm having a problem connecting between my M1Gold and my PC. I purchased the ELK serial adapter cable and install the drivers. When I insert the cable into my PC it says "Device not reconized". I get into Device Manager and under Universal Serial Bus Controllers it says "Unknown Device". I check it under properties and it says" No Drivers for device installed" Does anyone have any suggestions? I'm running Windows XP. Thanks, Bob

Included in the packaging for the ELK-USB232 Cable is a mini CD with PC drivers or you can download the drivers from our web site at http://www.elkproducts.com/products/m1/m1documentation.htm click on ELK-USB232 PC Drivers.

I have loaded from the disc and the website and I'm still getting the same message.

Windows XP ought to load the drivers automatically without even using the CD. Unplug the cable, look in Device Manager for any drivers that were (partially?) installed and uninstall them. Remove any trace of the converter from Device Manager. Reboot. Wait a few minutes to make sure Windows is completely rebooted. Plug the cable in and wait a minute or two to see if Windows finds the new hardware and installs the drivers automatically. If it doesn't, Click on Add New Hardware in Control Panel and let it automatically search for newly added hardware. If that still doesn't work, there are instructions in a document (DOC or PDF - not sure) on the CD and in the zip download. Follow them to manually install the drivers. Follow the instructions closely to install the correct drivers. Some people have had luck letting Device Manager search the Internet for the correct drivers. In between trying any of these optons, you should always uninstall/remove anything that was added/installed on the previous try (start fresh each time).

That did indeed work! Now I'm getting a message when I try to connect, "System did not respond. Cannot detect Baud setting". In trying again I just got this message: ElkRP Error Report - 07/07/2008 21:27 Error Number: -2147417848 Description: Method '~' of object '~' failed Executable: ElkRP:Main Module: frmMain Function: mnuConnectDirect_Click ElkRP Version: 1.6.26.0 M1G.dll Version: 4.5.30.0 M1.dll Version: 4.5.30.0 EZ8.dll Version: 4.5.30.0 ElkComm.dll Version: 1.2.10.10 ConvertDB.dll Version: 1.2.10.0 ElkSafe.dll Version: 1.0.2.0 ErrorDlg.dll Version: 1.0.10.0 Microsoft Windows XP ProfessionalService Pack 2 (Build 2600) service pack 2.0
