Cant add additional Keypads... :(
Posted by jaketaft76 on 06/02/2009 08:30 PM

Im just starting to get my M1 up and running and it has been a headache to say the least. I have my M1 connected to ElkRP through a M1XEP and is working properly. I have the Security set up and its all working well. Now im trying to add an addition key pad and its not working. Im using a an M1DBH for data bussing. i have one keypad connected and it works fine. when i plug in the other keypad and go to set its address to (2) and het exit i keep getting and error "KP Adrr.-> 2 Lost Comm." I tried just hooking up one keypad and trying to change its address and i get the same thing. I know im supposed to enroll the keyopad after i change the address. but i cant get to that step because once i change the address. teh keypad locks up with that error message. All i can do is set the address back to (1) to get it working again. Any solutions.? Adding an additional keypad.

Not 100% sure as I'm still learning myself, but did you check the terminations? If you're using the M1DBH then JP3 on the control should be jumpered and the rj45 plug after your last device should be jumpered. None of the keypads plugged into the m1DBh should be jumpered for termination. Can you verify that is all correct?

I think your only problem is that you are trying to execute the enrollment process from the new keypad. That will not work. When you add a new keypad you MUST use one of the already existing "working" keypads (in this case Keypad #1) to perform the enrollment. Then you will see the additional new keypad come out of the error message.

Once you have addressed the new keypad you will need to enroll it from a working keypad or via the RP Software. The message sugests you are addressing it correctly, now just enroll and it will work no problem.

I got it working thanks. the problem was i couldnt use the M1DBH to do the enrolling. i needed to hard wire (parallel) the (2) keypads together on the data line.
