ElkRM won't work after ElkRP
Posted by Casher on 01/09/2009 08:50 PM

Hello all. New Elk M1G system and first post. Installed RM yesterday with license key and got everything working with RM. Today, I installed RP, programmed the control and RP worked properly. When I went back in to RM, immediately after entering the proper code, it says "lost communications...will try again in 60 seconds". I keep hitting retry and get the same message. I've gone back through the RP and can't find any option that would have disabled or altered the RM. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Make sure ELK-RP is disconnected from the system before trying to connect with ELK-RM.

I verified that and rebooted the computer. I'll also try rebooting the M1 control panel to make sure.

The first step I would take is to verify that the IP address of the M1XEP is still the same. In ElkRP, goto the "Account Details" screen. In the lower right corner of this page, you will see a button that says "M1XEP Setup". Click on this and go to the TCP/IP Settings page. Make sure the IP address is still the same IP address that you have the ElkRM software trying to connect to. Also verify the the check box labeled "Enable Non-Secure Port" is checked and that the port number below it is set to 2101... Let us know!

cwithworth - Thanks for your suggestions. That did the trick! To make sure I understand fully, I have to have the non-secure port enabled for the RM to work, is that correct? As long as I don't have port 2101 mapped outside the router/firewall, I'll be safe, right? If I want to access the system from outside the local network, I need to port forward the secure port, 2601, right?

Casher: You are correct, you need to have port 2101 enabled for ElkRM(S) to work. If you do not have port 2101 you should be good to go! If your forward port 26, 80, and 2601 through your router to the IP address of the M1XEP, you'll be able to use the Java web interface for control... Thanks for your post!
