M1 fails to turn off lights after X minutes
Posted by WayneW on 02/02/2010 11:19 AM

[quote="from the ISY forum"]
Whenever Zone(Motion) is un-secure
AND It is dark
AND Porch Light is Off
THEN Turn on Porch Light for 5 minutes
The Porch Light correctly comes on when there is motion at the door after dark, but it never turns off. Any thoughts?

Sadly, I can confirm that issue still exists (intermittently) in the latest Elk firmware. The workaround is to use a virtual output as a timer, but that adds a lot of bulky kludge to the code. Since the Elk can remember to turn outputs off reliably, why can't it remember to turn off lights reliably? This issue has been present for years. :(

Is there anything we can do to troubleshoot this?
Is there any chance of this getting fixed in firmware?

I too would love to see this answered or resolved. A tip is, if you're using polling, be sure you stop doing so. It seems quite broken. Turning off polling resolved a large number of my Insteon issues but I still have this one; some things just never freaking turn off on their own. Whyy?

There are several related threads on this topic. Many of them are quite old. It would be nice if Brad could post a summary of the current status of this issue. Even if there's no news (or no hope?) it would help us to have a clear summary of the status. The release notes for 50.1.4 claim to have fixed it for the Insteon PowerLinc MODEM (PLM) #2412S. What about the others (PLC 2414S)? Thanks, Jill

I've tested this feature using the 2414S with M1 Firmware 5.2.2 and M1XSP Firmware 50.1.4 and the timing is working as expected. Please check and compare your M1XSP jumper settings with the latest M1XSP Installation Manual. In RP under Automation, Lighting make sure the "OPT" box is Not Checked for each light.

Thanks for the update, Brad! Do you by chance know if the firmware version of the PLC 2414S makes a difference? I thought I recalled something about v2 or greater required. I'm anxious to have this working, but don't want to update the XSP firmware (which promises to wipe out all the Insteon links) if it gets me nowhere.
