Unexpected TAPI error: 2 with Windows 2008 R2
Posted by Buchheim on 01/14/2010 02:06 PM

I have Windows 2008 R2 running and when I launch ELKRP.exe I get the following error: Unexpected TAPI error: 2 I was thinking it has to do with the serial connections so I was thinking of trying either the M1 USB to RS-232 Converter Cable (USB232) or the RS-232 to Ethernet Converter (IP232). Which is recommended with Windows 2008 R2, if it will work at all?

You receive this message when starting RP or when trying to make a modem connection to the control? Look in your system tray to see if any other programs are running which use a modem connection. If so try disabling or shutting down the program. You could also try a "Repair" on the software ---- Start, Control Panel, Add/Remove Program, select RP and when prompted select "Repair". The Telephony Application Programming Interface (TAPI) is a Microsoft Windows API, which provides computer telephony integration and enables PCs running Microsoft Windows to use telephone services. Different versions of TAPI are available on different versions of Windows. The purpose of the TAPI specification is to provide control of telephony resources to applications. This is used primarily to control either Modems or, more recently, to control business telephone system (PBX) handsets. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Telephony_Application_Programming_Interface

There doesn't seem to be other software running that requires a modem connection. In fact, the motherboard doesn't have a modem on-board. I did a Repair and Uninstall/Install and I get the same result. You think that it could be something with the serial connection on the computer and try to use the M1 USB to RS-232 Converter Cable (USB232) or the RS-232 to Ethernet Converter (IP232)?

Does this happen when you start up ElkRP, or when you try to connect to a control, or other?

This happens when ELKRP is starting up. Also, when it loads the SEND/RCV menu item is greyed out and can't be selected.

Are you able to connect to the system? The Send/Rcv Icon will only be available after you're connected. Try the following with the software closed click Start, Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, select RP 1.6.26, click Remove when prompted select "Repair". Once the Repair is complete reboot your PC and retest.
