Elk RMS 2.0.2 -- Celsius Weather
Posted by dutchyn on 10/14/2009 01:17 PM

I would like to have the Elk RMS weather display in Celsius, because we're in Canada. It looks like you're using the Yahoo weather api, and they say to add "&u=c" to the end of the location code (i.e. http:weather.yahooapis.com/forecastrss?p=CAXX0442&u=c but when I add that extension on to the location code (CAXX0442 works for my location), RMS says the location code is incorrect. I've tried a number of alternative extensions: * escaping the & as %26 and as & * trying their URL swizzling (that works in some parts of Yahoo weather) with ...CAXX0442_c or ...CAXX0442_C None of them work. Do you have any other suggestions. Alternately, if there isn't a way to get celsius now, please add this as a feature request. Chris D

ELK-RP under Globals G01-G05 (Moscellaneous) make sure Temperature Display = Celsius.

Goto the following link for Canada Codes: http://weather.yahoo.com/Canada/CAXX/regional.html Once you click on the weather you want to see You will see the code in the URL to enter in RMS's zip code box:

So, I gather from this experience that ElkRMS will default to fahrenheit, and read the Elk settings to decide what format to read and display weather in. Interesting ... Thank you

ElkRMS is using the deprecated yahoo weather API, as they are requesting the weather code as "p=" rather than "w=" which is as you say documented at http://developer.yahoo.com/weather/. Note this message:

Note: The old location parameter 'p' has been deprecated and will be removed in the future releases. Hence users are encouraged to migrate to the 'w' parameter which provides deep integration into Y! GeoPlanet. The old documentation is archived here.

Elk should fix it so that RMS requests weather using the "w=" parameter, because finding the old CAxx codes is very difficult since they are no longer in use.
